Nova Scotia Wild Blueberry Institute
Research Initiative

In 1995, a new research initiative was launched with the provision of funds by industry, and matching of these industry, and matching of these industry funds by the former Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing. These funds have hired a post-doctoral person to be located in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, as an Industrial Research Professor. This PhD graduate is designated to develop and carry out programs in collaboration with other researchers in the field. Another Industrial Research position will be occupied by Dr. Leonard Eaton, and funded totally by industry. Additional funding could be matched by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The NSWBI has placed emphasis on co-operating with these Industrial Research Professors. The NSWBI plays a coordinating role and is involved in identifying the lowbush blueberry research priorities. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving the research projects submitted through this Research Initiative
