Set your Power Options on your system to turn off your monitor and Hibernate when you are not using your computer.
Turn both your monitor and computer off when you leave the office at the end of the day.
Set your default for printing on double-sided, if possible.
Set your margins at 1” instead of 1.5” (this can result in fitting 15% more on a single page).
If you have a printer or other peripherals in your office, turn them OFF when not in use.
Lighting and Electricity:
Turn OFF lights when you leave a room.
Use overhead lights only when natural light is insufficient.
Have overhead lights set up so that only half of the lights are used when turned on.
Use compact fluorescent or LED lights in non-overhead lights.
Unplug phone or other device chargers when not in use – they continue to draw power even if they are not actively charging.
Adjust your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature for you. If your office is overheating, contact physical plant right away so they can fix the problem.
Recycling:
Print drafts, homework assignments, or informal documents on the back of previously used papers.
Keep a recycling bin by your garbage and use it – the janitorial staff will empty it for you.
Share documents electronically whenever possible instead of printing multiple copies.
Other areas:
If you bring your lunch, use reusable containers instead of disposable ones.
Plan your day to reduce the number of car trips you need to make – consolidate off-campus errands whenever possible, carpool if you can.
When cooking at home make larger batches of food so you have leftovers for lunches. Bring those in reusable containers.
Use a refillable container for water or other beverages.
