If you have already forwarded your payment, thanks so much.

Research excellence at NSAC was awarded Friday with the five-year renewal of a Canada Research Chair at the university.
Dr. Derek Lynch, Canada Research Chair in Organic Agriculture, received a five-year renewal of his Tier 2 Chair position valued at $100,000 annually for the duration of the term. Tier 2 Chair positions are tenable for five years and renewable once and are intended for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. A $150,000 Canada Foundation for Innovation infrastructure component was also awarded.
Dr. Lynch’s research involves developing innovative crop and soil management practices to address the challenges to sustained growth of organic agriculture in Canada.
NSAC holds four prestigious Canada Research Chairs; two in agricultural biotechnology and organic agriculture, one in agriculture resource management and the fourth currently underway in agricultural bio-products.
Congratulations Dr. Lynch!
Recruitment Update
Hello from your recruitment team!
It's been a busy month for recruitment activities, both domestically and internationally. To recap, University Day was extremely well attended and campus support was incredible! After months of planning, with volunteers at each post, guest speakers and student ambassadors making presentatoins, the amount of positive feedback we are recieveing from our guests is wonderful. I've heard from guidance counselors, students and parents who all had great things to say about NSAC's University Day. In particular, that NSAC delivers the most comprehensive and friendly Open House for prospective students in Atlantic Canada.
International travel has been increasing for the recruitment team and I've just returned from Colombia, where I had the pleasure to meet top tier students, introduce myself and NSAC to three universities with Agricultural Sciences and work with an incredible agency, Study Union. A return visit is anticipated as this trip has proven to be very successful. Ashley and I are planning our next visits to New England and she is also busy preparing to accompany Brian on another visit to India. Janet continues her Australian tour, representing NSAC and our nation as one of the top female lumberjills in the competition, the Sydney Royal Easter Show. On the home front, Sandra is busy helping to co-ordinate our schedules and keep us on track.
On campus, we've been seeing an increase of prospective student tours come through, in addition to a large group of 4-H students and a delegation of Indian principals who will be meeting with Brian and Ashley in India as well. Recruitment was very proud to nominate Rebecca Harrison as Student Ambassador of the Year, who is now our third recipient. In the past, we've recognized Mark Schooten, now one of our M.Sc. students and Maxine MacLean, who is graduating this spring. With the help of our ambassadors, recruitment efforts have increased significantly over the past few years and our year end Ambassadors' Thank You will be held on April 7.
In addition to working on international projects and with prospective students, Janet, Ashley and I are in the process of working with newly admitted students to ensure their transition to NSAC is a positive experience. I've sent three reports to student advisors to help make calls and send e-mail to newly admitted students. Thank you to those who are always willing to help!
Last edits for our new International Student Guide Book are being made and we will officially launch the publication this week! We are now working on a parent guide and a viewbook for students who are known to us as " Mature and/or Transfer Students". Once these are finished, we will have our complete set of NSAC guide books. This is a three year project that will close by August.
On a final note, please help me wish Sandra Murphy a very wonderful happy birthday!
Until next time,
Monica
Student Thank You Note
Hello!
I wanted to pass this along in recognition of all of the hard work campus does to help attract and recruit students. As always, thank you to those who are always willing to lend a hand with our extra activities, such as "Bring Your Child to Work Day", 4-H activities, high school classes, youth groups and various other organizations.
Monica
"I am extremely excited to begin my studies at NSAC this September. I was exposed to NSAC and the Aquaculture Center in grade 7 while enhancing my science fair project for the National Science Fair. In grade 9 for the "Bring Your Child to Work Day" my choice was not to go entertain either of my parents professions. With my mother's understanding for my passion of science, she made arrangements with NSAC's Paul MacIssac/Aquaculture Center for me to shadow him and the students. I remember saying to my mother at that time, "NSAC is the best kept science secret and this is where I want to go after high school."
I've watched and listened to the increased exposure NSAC has received over the last few years and am anxiously awaiting to start my university science journey here.
Look forward to seeing you at NSAC!"
