International Talent Show Donates to Haiti
On Friday, Feb.19, NSAC International Student Association (ISA) hosted an international student talent show. The showcase featured a variety of talents from around the world and helped raise funds for Haiti. In total, $400 will be donated to the Red Cross to help the country.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the donation.
Graduate Research Day
Please mark Friday, April 9 in your calendars for Graduate Research Day!
This event promotes current graduate student research at NSAC and gives students an opportunity to inform and interact with the NSAC community, industry and general public about their exciting and innovative research.
Graduate students will present their research through both oral and poster presentations. Research from the departments of Plant, Animal, Environmental, Engineering and Business & Social Science will be highlighted.
Graduate Research Day is sponsored in part by NSAC Association of Graduate Students, NSERC-Atlantic and NSAC Research & Graduate Studies office.

W.A.T.E.R. Symposium
Are you concerned with water resource management in Atlantic Canada?
On March 26 and March 27, the inaugural Atlantic Canada W.A.T.E.R.* Symposium & Planning Forum (*Watershed, Assessment, Technology, Education & Research) will be held at NSAC. This symposium is being supported by NSAC, NSAC Department of Engineering, NSAC Research and Graduate Studies, NS Environment and NSERC.
The purposes of the symposium and forum are to bring together some of the leading scholars and practitioners of watershed management from across Atlantic Canada for the first, in what is hoped to be, a series of ongoing annual meetings. The symposium and forum will provide an opportunity for invited regional participants to share ideas, develop collaborative research partnerships with industry, establish a framework for enabling graduate students to present their research and to plan networks for acquiring strategic funding for future workshops.
Guest keynote speaker will be Timothy Ford, VP Research and Dean Graduate Studies, University of New England, Maine.
Other special guest speakers will include:

Shawn Dalton, University of New Brunswick
Darren Bardati, University of PEI

Upcoming Seminar Series Presentation
Mr. Ron Gargasz, Pennsylvania grass farmer, sustainable ag program pioneer and OCIA International founding member, will speak on Thursday, March 4 in Cumming Hall (upstairs, in Alumni) at 1 p.m. The title of his presentation will be, “From Specialists to Generalists: The Renaissance in Agriculture.”
This event is co-sponsored by the Rural Research Centre, the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada, NSAC’s Seminar Series Committee, the Department of Plant & Animal Sciences and the Atlantic Canada Organic Regional Network.

NSAC Teaching Awards
Nominations for the 2009-2010 NSAC teaching awards are now being accepted. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 3.
Nominees may be full-time, part-time or sessional faculty members or technicians. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni may sponsor nominations. Nominations require the name of the sponsor and two supporting co-nominators.
The sponsor and nominee must provide the following materials in support of the nomination. Materials should be addressed to the secretary, Instructional Development Committee and submitted to the Registrar’s Office by Friday, March 26 or visit nsac.ca/idc to submit an online nomination at the instructional development website.
Call for Nominations: NSAC Internationalization Award
This award is intended to recognize and encourage activities by faculty, staff and students that contribute to internationalization at NSAC. The award will be presented at spring convocation.
Please consider nominating an individual or a team that has contributed to international project work, internationalized curriculum, international awareness, or student mobility and development. Complete the nomination form available below and send with two supporting letters to Dian Patterson, NSAC International (dpatterson@nsac.ca) by Monday, March 8. Nominees will be contacted directly for background information.

NSAC Women's Basketball Team will be in the ACAA Championship Tournament being held at NSAC March 5-7. The first game for the Rams is Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. versus University of Kings College. The Men's Team did not qualify for play-offs.
Volleyball
ACAA Volleyball Championships were held this past weekend in Saint John,NB. The ACAA All-Conference Awards Banquet was held on Friday where the All-Conference Teams were announced. NSAC Rams middle, Becky McDonald was selected as a member of the All-Conference Second Team.
Scholarship Spotlight

Ted Rose Memorial Bursary
The $500 Ted Rose Memorial Bursary is awarded to a student who plans to operate a livestock farm. Selection criteria include a documented commitment to animal welfare, financial need and sound academic performance. Claudia Roberts, Debert, NS, a fourth year B.Sc.(Agr.) Animal Science student, was selected as the 2009 recipient and is shown with Jim Goit, Executive Director, NSAC Development & External Relations, at the Scholarship Banquet.

Prospective TNAU Student
Dr.Leslie MacLaren and Brian Crouse are back from a two week recruiting trip to India. A highlight of the trip was meeting with approximately 25 students who are interested in coming to NSAC this September at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. As part of the trip, Brian visited and presented information sessions at TNAU's various campuses. He is shown at the Trichy campus (where one of the two TNAU students here at NSAC this year is from) with Anbukkarasi Anandha Gounder, a third year B.Sc.(Agr.) student who hopes to come to NSAC this September.
