FCC Rosemary Davis Award Nominations
Each year, Farm Credit Canada (FCC) recognizes amazing women who contribute to agriculture in Canada. The call for nominations for the FCC Rosemary Davis Award is now open and you are encouraged to consider nominating someone you know to receive this year's award.
The award honours five Canadian women who give back to the community and who are leaders in the industry. The women can be producers, veterinarians, teachers, researchers, agribusiness operators, agrologists or journalists. Simply put, we are looking for women who are leaders and mentors to others in the industry.
If you know someone who fits that mold, nominate her today by visiting the FCC website at fccrosemarydavisaward.ca. Self nominations are also encouraged. Nominations close at midnight on Jan.18, 2010.
The winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 2010 Simmons School of Management Leadership Conference for Women in Boston on April 30, 2010. For more information on the conference, visit simmons.edu/leadership.

Scholarship Spotlight

P. Max Kuhn Scholarship Awarded
NSAC recently recognized its outstanding students at the annual Scholarship Banquet. William Vosman, St. Andrews, NS, a fourth year B.Sc.(Agr.) Agricultural Business student, was presented with the $2,500 P. Max Kuhn Scholarship. The scholarship is presented to an NS student with a farm background and enrolled full time in any year of any program whose course and project work and summer employment demonstrate an interest in working in the agricultural industry after graduation. Shown congratulating William are (from left), Ann Spencer (Niece of Mr. Bernard Kuhn), Mr. Bernard Kuhn (from California) and Jim Goit, Executive Director, Development & External Relations, NSAC.
Photo of the Day

At a quick glance this might look like a snow covered field but it is actually a field of day-neutral strawberries covered with polypropylene, spun-bonded fabric for winter protection. Day-neutral strawberries produce fruit from mid-August to mid-October. This is a newer crop to Nova Scotia. Sixteen farms produced day-neutral strawberries in 2009.
