NSAC Students
Preparing for Year of Study in The Netherlands
TRURO- Nine Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) students
will study next year at Dronten University of Applied Sciences
(DUAS) in The Netherlands. They will be joining nine European
classmates for year two of Dronten’s Bachelor of Administration
(Honours) in International Food Business. Although the two
groups each studied the first year at their home university,
the students know each other already - they met last August
in Iceland.
"We need to offer university students new and unique
experiences that truly open the world up for them,” said
Dr. Leslie MacLaren, Co-President and Vice President Academic
of NSAC. “This partnership with Dronten is a shining
example of real international cooperation and students will
be the big beneficiaries."
While in The Netherlands the students will study European
business practices related to the global food industry culminating
in a three-month work placement with a business in Europe.
In the third year of the program, the whole class will study
North American food business practices at NSAC, followed by
a three-month work placement. In the final year of the program,
students can choose whether to complete their undergraduate
thesis in Canada or Europe.
The starting point of this exciting new International Business
Degree is a one week orientation in Iceland. Hosted by University
of Iceland, students explore commercial market opportunities
in Europe and North America for new Icelandic food products.
“Iceland was a fabulous experience,” said Susan
Sipos of Maitland, NS, a first year International Food Business
student at NSAC. “I cannot wait for next year in The
Netherlands.”
“Because of the unique European learning format, successful
students in the program need to be independent learners, willing
to travel and live abroad and exhibit high scholastic achievement,” said
Heather-Anne Grant, Program Coordinator. “This is a special
program with limited enrolment.”
