and Candle Lighting Ceremony in Alumni Theatre.
The Graduation Banquet will begin at 6 pm in Jenkins Hall.
The banquet is a highlight of graduation celebrations and provides
an opportunity for members of the graduating class to be recognized
with a variety of student leadership awards. Mr. Kent Loughead
will be the banquet speaker.
A Silver Distinction medal will be presented to Colette Wyllie
of Debert, Nova Scotia and three Bronze Distinction medals
will be awarded to Connie McLellan, Noel Shore; Mattea Tracey,
Windsor and Daniel Muir, Merigomish.
The NSAC's system of Distinction Awards is designed to express
the university's acknowledgment and appreciation of those graduating
students who devote their time, energy and talent to student
affairs and athletics. The system is fashioned so that only
those students who demonstrate strong character and superior
ability in intellectual endeavor and athletic achievement and
who exhibit definite qualities of leadership, will receive
these Distinction Awards.
The Noel Enman Memorial Award, instituted in 1984, is presented
annually to a technician or technology graduate whose personality
and fellowship has contributed to student life and activities
thereby gaining the respect of students and faculty. This award
will be presented to Rebecca McDonald of Milford Station, Nova
Scotia.
“Leadership is an attitude cultivated over time," said
Judy Smith, NSAC Athletics Director and Dean of Student Services.
"We are proud of the desire our students have shown in distinguishing
themselves and the university in this way."
The 2010 Graduating class will also present the traditional
Class Composite to the university as a class gift.
NSAC is a specialized university that cultivates learning
and research, focusing on improving and sustaining our environment
for the health and well-being of society.
