Professor Hoyle has been a member of faculty at NSAC since September 1986. During the past few years, Dr Hoyle has taught courses in: Organic Chemistry (intro and advanced), Food Chemistry, Integrated Advanced Chemistry Laboratory,
Environmental Chemistry and graduate courses and modules.
Dr Hoyle has also been actively involved in research on organic agriculture, environmental chemistry,
organosulfur chemistry and studies of the health of local rivers. He has worked
with many undergraduate students on a variety of undergraduate research projects, often funded with NSERC summer scholarships. Dr Hoyle has a keen interest in developing new and innovative methods for both
teaching and for assessment. He has also created much www based material and
encourages students to do likewise.
Dr Hoyle is the Chief Judge for the 2007 Canada Wide Science Fair, which will be held in Truro next May.
Previously, Professor Hoyle was a member of faculty at Gettysburg College, did research at the National Research Council (Halifax) and was a chemistry laboratory technician at both the University of Cambridge and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Foods (UK).
