NSAC
is pleased to offer the Nova Scotia Tractor Safety Program
for young tractor drivers.
If you have a Class 8 Drivers
License you can be eligible to get a condition 15 endorsement on your license if you successfully complete this course.
This course will increase
the awareness and test competency of Nova Scotia youth aged
14 - 16 with regards to safe operation and use of farm tractors
and implements. Topics such as safety, highway regulations,
pre-operation checks, safe starts and stops and connecting
and hauling various implements will be covered.
At the end of the course,
written and driving skills tests will be completed. Participants
who obtain 70% on both the written and skills will receive
a certificate of achievement from NSAC.
Please note: This course is not intended to teach tractor driving. All participants must have
at least 10 hours of supervised tractor driving experience
before taking this course.

Who Should Attend?
Youth, aged 14- 16 who currently have a Class 8 Nova Scotia
Drivers License and at least 10 hours tractor driving experience. Youth with a Class 5N licence are also eligible.
Instructors
Scott Read
Scott is currently a Machinery Systems Technician with the
Department of Engineering at NSAC. With over 10 years experience
operating farm machinery, he also has extensive hands on
knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, setting up
automation controls, electronic components and design, welding
and more. Scott currently prepares and teaches labs in welding
and metal fabrication, agricultural machinery and horticultural
engineering.
Stewart Yuill
Stewart is currently a Dairy Technician at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He grew up on a dairy farm in Old Barns, just outside of Truro Nova Scotia. A member of the Colchester 4-H club for 12 years, Stewart was involved with dairy, goat, poultry and Tractor projects. Along with many trips to the Provincial 4-H Show, Stewart also had the opportunity to show at Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Stewart’s extracurricular activities include minor hockey, provincial fastball and coaching and umpiring local Ball Teams.
Alden Knight
Alden is currently a lab instructor at NSAC and bring many years of experience in tractor maintenance and operation. Alden worked as shop foreman for a local farm machinery dealership in addition to having held several positions at NSAC. He has worked as farm worker at N.S.A.C. farm as well as been an agronomy research technician in field crops for Production Technology
Chris Nelson
Chris is currently an Agricultural Technician with the Engineering Department at the NSAC. He is tasked with running the wood lab and being a laboratory instructor on several courses including wood construction technology, surveying and horticultural engineering. Prior to this, he was a research technician with the Organic Agricultural Centre of Canada where he setup and maintained research plots and was a farm equipment operator. He also helped organize the Farmedic course held at the college for first responders. The course was geared towards teaching firefighters techniques to deal with farm related emergencies such as equipment entanglements, rollover’s and extractions from confined spaces.
