This
year, I am teaching Introductory Sociology (SOCI1000 and SOCI
1001). My teaching philosophy is similar to my research philosophy
of examining how social science theory and models can be applied
to real world situations. Therefore, I want students to not
only learn important theories and principles, but also how these
theories and principles can be used to better understand "real
world" issues and how they can be applied to the students' own
everyday life. I believe that students should be participants
in the learning process rather than just passive recipients
of information. Therefore, I mix lectures with class discussion
and experiential exercises to highlight relevant materials in
an attempt to make students active learners.
