Poultry Industry Manure Project

The project will pay for the costs of
GPS farm mapping, soil and manure sampling

Purpose: To pro-actively address poultry manure management issues associated with producing more manure than the producers land can handle. The majority of poultry (chickens, turkeys, pullets, eggs) producers may be in this situation.

Producers can not be initially contacted due to the Privacy Act, therefore we need you to call us to sign up for the project. All farms will be given numbers to ensure complete confidentiality.

Please call ASAP as we need to develop a plan to GPS and soil test this season.

A project has been funded to provide a more accurate picture of how much manure is being produced, producer owned land base (not including other land that currently take manure as that will change in the future) and the nutrient levels of the manure and soils.

This information will be used to develop manure management initiatives such as a manure brokerage program, trucking subsidies and alternative manure plans.

Who put the project together: In response to manure issues, an Industry Poultry Working Group was formed to address environmental risk factors associated with manure that are facing the industry. The group includes representatives from each of the poultry groups, Dr. Rob Gorden and Lise LeBlanc.

Information that will be collected per farm:

• Poultry numbers - manure volume
• Manure sampling and analysis
• GPS farm mapping - to determine accurate acreage
• Soil sampling and analysis

In order for the project to be successful, it’s critical that there is as close to 100% uptake as possible.

It’s Important for the Industry to be part of the Solution!
