Potato Shopper Survey Results Shared at Potatoes NB Trade Show and Conference
Recently Dr. Gefu Wang-Pruski was invited by the Potatoes NB Trade Show & Conference to speak on the results of NSAC's survey of potato consumers. Dr. Wang-Pruski, who headed the 6000-household survey in three Maritime provinces reported that consumers want fresh, firm, ripe, medium size, white potatoes. While this is their daily potato of choice, consumers agreed that they would try other varieties occasionally. The survey also revealed that although most consumers aren't concerned about prices, as they view potatoes as relatively cheap food, they have strong opinions about packaging.
Dr. Wang-Pruski reported that consumers want to see the potatoes in the store which would require transparent packaging. However, they are concerned with the environmental impact of using plastic bags.
