NSAC Has Gone Idle-Free

Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) is now an idle-free zone. The university has partnered with Drivewiser, a program of Clean Nova Scotia and Conserve NS on this project to persuade motorists to turn off their vehicles.

“By encouraging people to shut off their engines, not only will we help them save on fuel, we will reduce the amount of climate change emissions released into the atmosphere,” says Dr. Bernie MacDonald, Co-President, Vice President Administration at NSAC. “It’s all about changing attitudes and creating new habits.”

Signs are located in 10 areas known for idling vehicles, near building entrances and loading areas. The signs will remind students, staff, visitors and delivery drivers to not idle their vehicles unnecessarily.

Drivers who violate the idle-free policy will receive a reminder from NSAC Safety and Security officers. “Idling vehicles will receive a card to remind drivers of our no-idle policy and the environmental impact of not turning off their motors,” says Elaine Rector, Coordinator, NSAC Safety and Security.
