Open House - NSAC campus
Here is a schedule of various buildings that will
have their facilities open and staffed.
Atlantic Poultry Research Centre
The Atlantic Poultry Research Centre valued at
$9.8 million, will provide teaching and research capabilities
in all phases of poultry production from hatching to value-added
product processing.
This state-of-the-art facility will allow fundamental research
on nutrition, physiology, poultry product quality, food safety
and poultry waste management while providing opportunities for
the development of new and innovative research directions important
to support key regional and national priorities.
Funding for the 3000 square metre Centre has been made possible
through funds allocated by the Province of Nova Scotia, the
Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Nova Scotia Research
& Innovation Trust. Additional funds have been generously
provided by the National and Atlantic Feather industries, Atlantic
provincial governments and various individual donors.
Department of Environmental Sciences
The Department of Environmental Sciences carries out research
and offers technical, undergraduate and post-graduate courses
in biology, chemistry (including environmental and food chemistry),
pest management, agricultural environmental sciences and environmental
horticulture.
Graduate studies related to pest management, agricultural,
environmental and food chemistry, environmental sciences, waste
management and soil nutrient management are offered in this
department. The Department is home to the Atlantic Turfgrass
Research Centre.
Various research labs will be open to the public and research
staff on hand. Labs that are routinely manned and which have
active analyses on-going include C117 and C118 (water quality
analysis for nutrients and bacteria), C206 and C207 (soil nutrients
analysis and green house gas monitoring) and C210 (bioproducts
research). Other research labs may be open that day as well.
Department of Engineering
The Department of Engineering pursues high-quality applied
science education and research which is focused on the bio-economy.
We offer three undergraduate programs, including two 4 year
degrees and a 2 year Diploma in Engineering, and a graduate
program through a Master of Science in Engineering.
Banting building, home of NSAC Engineering, will be open to
visitors. Computer bridge building simulations will be set up
in Room 33, the Computer lab. On the other end, in the Metal
Lab, demonstrations will be available with our latest technology,
the CNC lathe.
NSAC Engineering also includes Math and Physics, located in
the basement of Cox Institute. The Electronics lab, Cox 30,
will be open will demonstrations available. As well, a mathematical
simulation of a mechanical pendulum will be on display in Cox
28.
Department of Business and Social Sciences
