Academic honesty and integrity lie at the heart of any educational enterprise. Students are expected to do their own work and neither to give nor to receive assistance during quizzes, examinations or other class exercises, unless otherwise specified. As members of the NSAC community, students and faculty have a responsibility to maintain the highest level of academic integrity. The NSAC Academic Integrity Policy describes both the obligations of students and faculty to maintain academic integrity and the process to be followed in cases of academic dishonesty.
The NSAC community takes the issue of academic honesty very seriously. The penalties for violations can be severe depending on the nature of the offense. Penalties imposed for acts of academic dishonesty can include one or more of the following:
official warning
requirement to attend a seminar or workshop on citation and academic integrity
requirement to resubmit an assignment
reduction in mark for an assignment, up to and including a mark of 0%
reduction in grade for a course, which may result in a failing grade
suspension or expulsion from the university
Students should familiarize themselves with this policy and their instructors’ expectations so that they can understand how to avoid committing acts of academic dishonesty. Questions about the policy may be addressed to the Associate Vice President Academic for Students.
Students may use the "Turnitin" system to check their work. This website will compare a paper to thousands of web sources to verify that it has not been copied from another source.
